Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Michael Fletcher and I am the Sensei of the Harrisonburg Hebi Ashi Dojo. The first meeting that I had with my instructor, Shogo Kuniba, Soke, was March 15, 1986. That was the day my life would change forever. I had met a true Japanese Sensei; a living legend. I was able to train under him until July 14th, 1992, when he passed away.
This site is dedicated to my late Soke, Shogo Kuniba. My dojo is named in his honor. Kuniba, Soke had a reputation in Japan for his devastating kicks; his mawashi geri (roundhouse kick) would coil around your block as if a mighty snake were striking, and his foot would hit its target with "no trouble". His nickname was Snake Foot or, in Japanese, Hebi (Snake) Ashi (Foot). Hence, the name of my dojo:
Hebi Ashi Dojo
My hope is that you will appreciate this site half as much as I enjoy speaking about Shogo Kuniba, Soke!
